Meet APTech's Principals

Applied Pavement Technology is led by a team of accomplished and visionary principals who set the tone for a workplace environment where technical competency, creativity and enjoyment are fostered.


President Kathryn A. Zimmerman, P.E.

Katie Zimmerman has earned a national reputation for her expertise in pavement management and life-cycle costing experience working for transportation clients across the country. She has assisted with the implementation of pavement management, preventive maintenance, and contract maintenance concepts for state highway agencies and other transportation agencies including municipalities and airports. She regularly promotes the transfer of pavement technology by conducting training courses and is regularly sought out as a presenter at technical conferences.


Vice President Margaret R. Covalt, P.E.

Maggie Covalt is at the forefront of the airport pavement management field and is closely involved with the pavement-related technological advances within the aviation community. She is the co-designer of APTech's suite of pavement management software, and was a research engineer on the original development of the MicroPAVER pavement management system. She is known not only for her technical expertise, but also for making client satisfaction a top priority-managing highly successful projects on-schedule and within budget.

Vice President David G. Peshkin, P.E.

David Peshkin is an accomplished pavement engineer with extensive experience in pavement evaluation, pavement design, and pavement maintenance and rehabilitation techniques. He has been instrumental in nationwide pavement evaluation projects, examining pavement performance, modeling, and developing rehabilitation recommendations. He has also played a leading role nationwide in researching and speaking on preventive maintenance. Mr. Peshkin has devoted a significant portion of his career to technology transfer activities, assisting in the development of many successful training courses, and presenting those courses to thousands of engineers and technicians around the world.

 

Airports Program Director Monty J. Wade, P.E.

Monty Wade has over 15 years of experience in airport pavement engineering. His broad background and pavement experience have enabled him to work in many areas, including evaluation and design, pavement management, research, and technology transfer. He has led pavement studies at major commercial airports such as O'Hare International Airport, Dulles International Airport, and Orlando International Airport. He has also served as Project Manager for the implementation or update of pavement management systems at a host of Air Force Bases, including such high-profile bases as Edwards AFB and Langley AFB. Overall, Mr. Wade has been involved in pavement-related projects at more than 100 airports.

Roads Program Director Kurt D. Smith, P.E.

Kurt Smith as over 23 years of experience in the areas of pavement design, evaluation, and rehabilitation. He has led nationwide studies on pavement performance and pavement rehabilitation effectiveness and also has conducted numerous pavement evaluation projects requiring the assessment of the structural adequacy of the existing pavement and the development of appropriate rehabilitation strategies. He oversees the research and training segment of the firm and actively manages several projects while serving as an advisor and technical analyst on others.
